View from the Top Episode 6 – Stargrace
Karen and I have been so excited lately to bring you more episodes of a View from the Top we’ve just been rocking them out! On episode 6 we have everyone’s favorite altaholic Stargrace and the show came out beautifully. In one of our most interesting interviews yet we pinned down our Canadian friend and asked her about everything from writing to MMOs to guilds and she really delivered. Won’t you take a moment to listen to what she has to say? I promise it will be worth it!

It was interesting to hear the guild leader’s take on the raid transition question.
I think the nightmare scenario that many players have seen is where about a third of the guild (often including the officers, since people who are less involved tend not to end up in leadership) is significantly more hardcore than the rest of the guild. I guess it’s the paradox of having an easier entry level raid experience – it brings more players into the raid game, but it also means fostering guilds that have a wider skill disparity, because the top half of your players actually CAN carry the raid through the first dungeon or two. Then everyone is stuck choosing between their friends and progress a few patches into the expansion, and that almost always ends painfully.

Great show as all ways.
I am so glad that Stargrace was on. I hope she does do a podcast, She sounds great, and as she has been around for a few years now. I tend and I am sure others will also. To feel that she has a grasp of what is going on in the MMO world.
By the way, This is the best sounding MMO Show out here right now. Great editing, great sound, great host’s. Thanks for all the work.

Thank you for the high praise Alik, we really do appreciate it. View from the Top is one of my favorite things to do these days and Karen is extremely passionate so I think that really comes through. We’re going to be taking a break next week but we’ll be doing our best to line up a lot of really interesting guests for coming shows.
Don’t forget to send in your questions!

You know what’s strange is that I’m not even in a guild in EQ2 but I thoroughly enjoy listening to your podcasts. Speaking of which, Stargrace made for an excellent guest. I’ve been reading her blog for quite some time now and it’s nice to be able to put a voice to it. She’s as well spoken in person as she is in her blog. I hope you’ll be able to twist her arm into coming back on the show again. Something tells me two seasoned guild leaders won’t have any trouble with that task.
Looking forward to more shows…

This was my first time listening to the show and I really enjoyed it. Great job getting Stargrace to come on.
While it was only a small topic, I was amused at your comments about how EQ2 guild halls have blocked casual player contact in the world. There is the constant beating on Blizzard for not adding housing and their excuse is that they don’t want that very same thing happening to WoW. I guess they really do have a point.
