Last week Jessica Chastain ruined Arnold’s return to the box office and this week she has a great chance of ruining the chances of new release, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Movie 43 and Parker. all enter an incredibly crowded and competitive box office and all three are getting universally panned by critics.
The biggest release of the bunch is Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. The fantasy tale of grown up Hansel & Gretel as bounty hunters screams Van Helsing or The Brothers Grimm and that’s not a good thing but it might be good for as brain candy. The best of the bunch looks to be Jason Statham’s Parker. While it seemingly follows the standard Statham action film formula, that formula and Statham’s natural charm should be good for action fans. And the worst of the bunch looks to be the star-studded Movie 43. Directed by 12 different people and featuring a who’s who of Hollywood stars performing the lowest of low brow humor, Movie 43 has disaster written all over it but I am sure someone will find it amusing.
On the flip side, if nothing piques your interest and the cold is just too much for you to get out this week, the home video releases should keep you plenty entertained. Die Hard comes to BluRay (again) with a 25th Anniversary set, while Hotel Transylvania, Seven Psychopaths and Paranormal Activity 4 (unrated) also release. There really does seem to be something for everyone.
