If you are like me, a child of the 80s, then you are undoubtedly excited for the return of Arnold to the big screen in The Last Stand. Sure he had a role in last summer’s The Expendables 2 but The Last Stand marks his first real starring role in quite some time. It looks cheesy as hell but in a way, that is what one wants out of an Arnold film so it sounds just about perfect. However if 80s style corn ball action isn’t really your thing, this weekend boasts a pair of other big releases in theaters.
The first is the Mark Wahlberg / Russell Crowe political crime drama, Broken City. Crowe looks absolutely evil in the trailers and Wahlberg looks to have brought his A game. If however you are looking for something a little more spooky, Mama should do the trick. This horror tale presented by Guillermo Del Toro stars Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain and looks like it might scare the pants off of you.
If home video is more your thing, this week sees four notable releases hit retail and digital distribution services. The biggest of the bunch is the phenomenal End of Watch, the buddy cop drama starring Michael Pena and Jake Gyllenhaal. Also out is the 30th Anniversary of Cujo, and the highly unnecessary sequels to Death Race (Death Race 3: Inferno) and Universal Soldier (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning).
What are you watching this week?
