As we near the end of the year, things are beginning to pick up at the cinema. OK, so maybe this week is not the best example of better theatrical fare but you get what you get.
The big release this week is The Collection, a sequel to the 2009 slasher flick The Collector. Similar in design to the Saw series, The Collection places a group of mercenaries in the Collector’s house of horrors. If you love gore filled horror fare with inventive death traps, this might be the film for you. Expect our review early next week.
One other release caught my eye this week and that was Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, not because it holds any promise of being good, quite the opposite in fact.. Based on the Univeral Soldier series from the early 90s. This film reunites Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren as genetically modified super soldiers. Its bound to be awful and quite hard to find, no screens are carrying it in my area within 50 miles, but it is amazing that someone is still bankrolling this and not pushing it straight to video.
Things are a little brighter on the small screen, depending upon your point of view. Two critically acclaimed series wrap up their fall runs with mid-season finales. Once Upon a Time looks like it will finally have Emma and Snow White make it back to Storybrook and The Walking Dead will no doubt end on a cliff-hanger leaving our mouths watering for more.
And finally the home video front has a trio of big releases. The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s finale to his Batman trilogy, arrives in stores alongside the Blu-Ray release of Pixar’s best film, Finding Nemo, and Microsoft’s live action Halo series, Forward Unto Dawn. All make great stocking stuffers. Hint. Hint.
So what will you be watching this week?
