Liam Neeson might have ruled the box office last week with Taken 2 but he may find it hard to repeat as the champion this week as three high profile releases come the the big screen. First up is Argo, director Ben Affleck’s much anticipated follow-up to The Town, is about a CIA plan to smuggle six Americans out of Iran during the Iranian Revolution disguised as Canadian filmmakers. Affleck has come a long way from the days of Bennifer and Daredevil and Argo has people talking about a potential Oscar nod. Second is Seven Psychopaths, director Martin McDonagh’s follow-up to the stellar In Bruges. Featuring a stellar cast headlined by Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, and Woody Harrelson, Seven Psychopaths looks to provide some great counter programming to the seriousness of Argo and the horror of the third film this week, Sinister. Sinister looks to properly kick off the horror season with what appears to be a creepy supernatural thriller.
If small screen horror is more your game then this week should be something special for you. The Walking Dead returns for its third season this Sunday on AMC and it looks like we will finally get to see Michonne in action. And on Wednesday, American Horror Story: Asylum kicks off on FX. It is a great time to be a horror fan.
On the Blu-ray tip thing are a little light. The Chernobyl Diaries finally hits as does Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, neither of which are peaking my interest. However if you are a fan of classic cartoons, The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume Two comes out. This three disc set features some of the best animated shorts to come out of Warner Bros. and is a must own for animation fans.
So what will you be watching this week?
