Coming to Stores: September 25th Edition

Holy cow. I started putting this list together and even though there aren’t any big hitters (outside of maybe soccer games if you are into those), I was surprised with the amount of new games coming out. Equally shocking is an honest-to-God Vita release, which made me hit “refresh” on my browser to make sure I saw that correctly. Next week it really begins, so I suggest taking the week off and watching some TV. Or reading a book.. ~ Don

Please note dates are subject to change, and these do not account for digital releases, which can sometimes be as important as retail releases. Don’s personal picks are highlighted in red.

It must be national soccer week as both FIFA Soccer 13 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 both hit store shelves this week. Be advised that while I have not played Pro Evolution Soccer, I have played FIFA the past two years and last year’s title update was a fantastic one. I can only assume this years offering will be the same. Angry Birds Trilogy makes its way to consoles with releases on both the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. The wildly-addicting bird-flinging puzzle game will surely be joy to kids’ eyes when they see those colorful, angry birds on a big screen in HD. (Editors Note: If the Angry Birds Trilogy is more than $5 and you pay for it you are dumb) You’ll see another new fighting game on the shelf with Dead or Alive 5. If Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was not your cup o’ tea, perhaps this long-running series will tickle your brawling itch. Other releases this week bring an even more-varied collection of games with adventurea,  action, princesses and mini-games all getting some shelf space. I’ll you let you guess which one is which.

  • Tuesday, September 25 ~ Hotel Transylvania
  • Tuesday, September 25 ~ Lalaloopsy: Carnival of Friends
  • Tuesday, September 25 ~ Wipeout 3

Vita:

  • Tuesday, September 25 ~ FIFA Soccer 13

Wait, handheld games are coming out this week? Strange. That saidn, it is nice to see some handheld games come out, especially more than just one or two titles a week. FIFA Soccer 13 should be on every Vita owners list to check out. (Editor’s Note: Unless you don’t like soccer in which case ignore Don’s crazy talk. Also LBP Vita is out there so get that instead.) The last one was such a great showcase for the hardware, it’ll be interesting to see what EA Sports adds to this one.

The 3DS gets a myriad of titles, including one I would love to play; Boulder Dash XL-3D. Growing up, Boulder Dash on the Atari was a favorite of mine, so seeing it on the 3DS would be a treat. And kids have a few possible big hits with Disney Princess: My Fairytale Adventure and Hotel Transylvania. The former caters to girls (weird, right?) (Editor’s Note: Don is sexist.) while the latter tries to hook some kids by being a movie tie in.
