It has been 17 years since Sylvester Stallone donned the moniker of Judge Dredd in the awful film of the same name. Hollywood though hates to give up on anything and Dredd 3D proves that doubly. Not only are they bringing back a franchise no one cared about, they are doing it in 3D. Surprisingly though Dredd 3D is getting great reviews so maybe Karl Urban wears the helmet well. Expect our review early next week.
Following Dredd 3D into theaters this week is the Jake Gyllenhaal cop drama, End of Watch. David Ayer, the writer of Training Day, writes and directs this charismatic film about a pair of hot shot L.A. cops. It is an energetic film with some genuine humor and vicious brutality. Expect our review later today.
If the big screen is not your thing, television and home video offer up some good stuff for viewers this week as well. SyFy’s Haven, based on Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid, returns for its second season while ABC’s Castle returns for its fifth season, both offering up fans more of what they want. Castle’s return could pose a ratings problem for NBC’s rookie sci-fi show Revolution, which debuted last week to good ratings but a middling reception (check out our review).
And finally, the biggest release of the week is of course the biggest movie of the summer, Marvel’s The Avengers. Coming to Blu-ray in a two or four disc set, this film should be on nearly everyone’s watch list, unless of course you hate fun.
So there is lots of good stuff this week, what will you be watching?
