Family friendly movies are sure to keep their iron-clad grip on the box office crown this week as Pixar releases their sure-fire megahit, Brave this weekend. Brave, about a fiery young Scottish princess coming to terms with the responsibilities of life, is more a traditional Disney princess movie than anything else but that alone should be more than enough to fend off the likes of a young Abraham Lincoln fighting vampires and Steve Carell preparing for the end of the world.
The ridiculously titled, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is brought to us by the mind of visionary Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) and while the quality of the story gives me pause, the action is bound to impress. On the other hand Steve Carell and Keira Knightley get try to spin a romantic comedy out of the end of the world with Seeking a Friend at the End of the World. Carell and Knightley are eye catching for their star power but this is being helmed by rookie director Lorene Scafaria (writer of Nick & Nora) and because of that I am getting a huge dud feeling from it.
It should probably go without saying but Brave is my pick of the week. Look for our review later this morning.
