While last week, Snow White and the Huntsman breathed some life into an otherwise Avengers dominated box office, two very big contenders hit the screens this week. My pick of the week is director Ridley Scott’s return to the science fiction / horror genre with the Alien prequel, Prometheus. A lot of the early buzz has died down but my personal opinion is this film has all the ingredients to make the Alien franchise relevant again.
While Prometheus caters to the adult crowd, families get some love this week with the release of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. This third Madagascar iteration hopes to recapture the magic of its predecessors but I personally am not sold on it. Many will certainly feel that it is great to see the eclectic gang of New York zoo animals adventuring once again, I on the other hand feel that maybe this franchise has run its course. That said, I am sure it will do exceptionally well at the box office because it has been quite some time since the last quality animated family film.
