PSOne Classics for the Vita are coming, as confirmed at Sony’s E3 Keynote, and I could not be happier. This was a feature that was announced before the handheld launched earlier this year but not much has said about it since then.
Walking through the large array of Sony Vita displays, I saw four Vita’s reserved for PSOne classics and I immediately made a beeline for the section. I talked to a representative hanging around the area and he explained that the firmware was coming mid-to-late summer, with compatibility to more and more classics coming afterwards.
I played a little bit of Final Fantasy VII so the gentleman could show me how they would function. The R2 and L2 triggers are assigned to the back touch pad, which felt really natural. All of the games will be able to use the analog sticks, too.
It’s looking like you will be able to play your beloved PSOne Classics on the Vita in the coming months, so be on the lookout for a firmware update.
