E3 2012: Where’s ‘The Last Guardian’?

The Last Guardian is still being made for the PS3 says Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide president.

The newest game from Team ICO, creators of the critically acclaimed ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, which got the enthusiast press whet with anticipation for the last couple of years hasn’t just vanished never to return. But when the Sony press conference Monday showed no signs of The Last Guardian people started to wonder about the fate of the game.

Apparently you can chalk that up to a few hiccups in the development process.

“The team is back in Tokyo is working hard, and there are some technical difficulties that the team is focused on right now,” said Yoshida to Eurogamer. ”That’s why we don’t have an update.”

The game has had a turbulent development cycle with the departure of Fumito Ueda, lead designer on the development teams previous two hits, from Team ICO who is now working on the game on a contractual basis and delays.

Rumors have been swirling the Twitter-sphere and message boards about the title because of it’s missed release late last year. There’s even been recent speculation online that Sony is holding the game back for it’s next generation console.

However, Yoshida has reassured fans that the game is still being developed for the PS3 console and this no-show is simply just a technical issue.
