E3 2012: SimCity Detailed

Once upon a time, SimCity was a behemoth franchise in gaming. It was the king of the city builders but then it went away. One cannot really blame them, after all if you’ve played one SimCity game, you’ve played them all. EA is seeking to change that attitude though and relaunch the classic franchise with a pair of new games. Now bear with me, SimCity Social is a facebook game and until recently I have never been interested in facebook games but stuff like You Don’t Know Jack proved to me that with the right team, facebook games can be good and fun. SimCity Social looks to be a full featured SimCity game, it just happens to be played through facebook. If they can deliver on their promise to provide a true SimCity game than I think Social may very well be something to keep an eye on.

As much fun as SimCity Social looks though, it is the new PC SimCity that has me most excited. The game looks great, has an intriguing multiplayer component (a first for the series) and features what looks to be the same great SimCity gameplay as I remember. I can’t wait to pollute my friends cities with nasty air.
