Codemasters To Close Bodycount Studio

Codemasters, popular for the Dirt-series, has proposed closing down their Guildford studio, fresh off the release of Bodycount. Bodycount got mostly negative scores, with a Metacritic of 51/100 on Playstation 3. Codemasters is meeting with the studio to discuss the closing and is encouraging them to find positions in the Warwickshire studio.

The Warwickshire studio produces racing titles for Codemasters, which Codemasters is now trying to focus on. They are opening a new studio to work on racing titles, as well, in Birmingham. This studio will work on a new unannounced racing IP.

“As Codemasters looks to take greater leadership in the racing category, the company is proposing a studio structure that adds resource and strengthens our best-in-class racing teams.”

“The output from the studios on the Warwickshire campus and in Birmingham is on the increase with multiple continuing game series, brand extensions and new racing IPs in production.”

“Both the Warwickshire and Birmingham studios have won BAFTAs for their critically acclaimed, multi-million selling titles and the company is adding resource to ensure they constantly over achieve in this competitive sector,” a spokesperson from Codemasters said.

Even though Bodycount received negative reviews, how do you feel about the studio shutting down, and Codemasters focusing on racing games? Let us know in the comments below.
