There have been rumors of a cyber attack that resulted in millions of Dirt 3 code vouchers that came with AMD products being leaked on the internet. CVG reports that AMD has made an official statement regarding the break-in.
This past weekend, activation keys associated with free Dirt 3 game vouchers shipping with select AMD products were compromised.
These activation keys were hosted on a third party fulfilment agency website, www.AMD4u.com, and did not reside on AMD’s website. Neither the AMD nor Codemasters servers were involved.
We are working closely with Steam, Codemasters, and our fulfilment agency to address the situation. AMD will continue to honour all valid game vouchers, however the current situation may result in a short delay before the vouchers can be redeemed.
In theory it will be easy to combat the problem by banning all the leak codes, but it is still a bit of a mess. Hopefully those with valid codes won’t have to wait long to enjoy the visually stunning racing game.
