Nintendo 3DS Sales Increase Drastically in Japan

Following a massive price-cut, Nintendo 3DS sales have shot up nearly 50 times than from the week prior in Japan. Selling a meager 4,132 units the week before (week ending August 7), this past week showed sales of 214,821. The PSP was the second top seller last week, with 40,409.

Overall sales from Nintendo’s latest handheld effort are now past the 1.5 million mark in Japan, and with the drop in price also affecting other markets in the world, we’re sure to see similiar results in other areas of the world.

This holiday is shaping up for Nintendo fans. With Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword coming to the Wii this November, the 3DS price drop, and a pair of first-party Nintendo 3DS titles on their way (Star Fox 64 3D and Super Mario 3D Land), Nintendo is poised to take back some of their lost sales this year.

Since the price drop, have you purchased a 3DS? Is it on your list now with a cheaper price? Is the handheld still too much? Let us know in the comments below.
